It’s time for autumn sleet and children’s viruses, colds, sore throats, coughing and other health problems. Before you go to the pharmacy for a guaranteed medicine from advertising, read how you can help your child in a natural way with the assistance of herbs, fruits and vegetables, aromatherapy or hydrotherapy.

Let’s start with the environment in which the sick child finds himself. Ventilate the room where the young patient lies. However, the child should be kept warm, especially watch out for drafts. Aroma lamps with essential oils work very well to alleviate the symptoms of the disease. They clean and humidify the air and, depending on the scent, they either refresh, soothe or cheer up.

How to keep a little room smell good?

Drop two to three drops of essential oil into 3 tablespoons of water into the lamp. For children, lavender oil, which cleans the air in the room from bacteria or viruses and soothes it, eucalyptus oil , which is also an excellent air purifier, or lemon balm oil is suitable .This in turn reduces fever, promotes sweating and soothes.

Mixture for perfect air disinfection: add 2 drops of lavender, 2 drops of tea tree and 2 drops of eucalyptus to 3 tablespoons of water. We light the aroma lamp twice a day for 25 minutes.

Tip: It is not bad to have a flowerpot with eucalyptus in every room at home, this plant perfectly cleans the air from viruses, bacteria and other pollutants.

When the fever comes

We only talk about fever when the body temperature exceeds 38 degrees Celsius. But beware, fever is not a disease, but only a defensive reaction of the organism, and therefore we should not intervene against it unnecessarily. Fever is the most effective remedy available to a child to fight the disease. This increase in body temperature speeds up all metabolic processes. Thus, viruses, bacteria and other toxic substances can be burned and eliminated.

Tea to reduce the temperature

We need: 1 part linden flower and 1 part elderflower

Procedure: Mix the herbs, prepare the tea by pouring 0.5 liter of boiling water over 1 tablespoon of the mixture and let it infuse for 10 minutes. Then strain, pour into a thermos and drink in sips. We can sweeten with honey.

For children we use the following dilutions: up to 2 years of age – dilute 1 teaspoon of already finished tea with 2 dl of pure water; from 3 to 5 years – dilute 2 teaspoons of already finished tea with 2 dl of pure water. Then we don’t have to dilute.

Wraps apply to fever

A wet sheet wrap is basically a lining of the whole body with a number of effects that act according to the length of the wrap. We distinguish three stages in treatment. In the first phase there is a reduction in fever, the second stage is neutral and helps with insomnia. In the third phase, the sweating treatment itself takes place.

We need: a bed or table to lay, two blankets, a sheet and a towel

  • We place two blankets on the bed or table, first double, then single.
  • Place a dry sheet on the top blanket.
  • We immerse the next sheet in cold water and squeeze it properly.
  • Place the wet sheet on the enclosed dry sheet.
  • We place the patient and wrap his body in a sheet.
  • Then we throw a blanket over it.
  • We leave the baby wrapped for an hour and then wash it with lukewarm water and finally dry it.

Tip: In case of fever, cold wet socks on the feet help the children, which we soak again after 15 minutes.

After reaching the peak of the fever, a healing sleep occurs, during which the child begins to sweat a lot and the temperature drops. Then the appetite appears. A child who has overcome fever and illness needs a few more days of rest and will be completely fit again.

Cold and stuffy nose

The steam is used in hydrotherapy because it opens the pores, causes an intense feeling of sweating and relaxes mucus during coughing. Humidified air is suitable for those who suffer from sinusitis, cough and allergies to substances dispersed in the air.

We need: a mass-produced inhaler, or we can make our own inhaler using a teapot with boiling water. We make a cornet from hard paper so that the steam can rise from the kettle directly to the nose and mouth.

  • Add 1 drop of lavender, 1 drop of thyme essential oil to the water and add 2 tablespoons of sea salt.
  • We try to instruct the child to inhale through the nose. We will never leave a child unattended!
  • We wrap the patient in a sheet or warm towel.
  • The patient inhales the steam for ten to twenty minutes, three times a day.
  • If the patient is too hot and sweaty, treatment can be completed with a lukewarm shower.

Onions apply to colds

Onion bags help to release mucus, they are suitable for children who have a cold and cough. Thanks to the bags, children sleep more easily during the night, because their stuffy nose is released. Prepare the bag by finely cutting 1 large onion, pouring it into a linen or cotton scarf, mashing, tying and hanging near the child’s head. We let him hang all night.

Sore throat

For sore and irritated throats, a mixture of lemon and honey is very effective , for which we need: 1 teaspoon of quality liquid honey, half a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice (preferably in organic quality). Mix honey and lemon juice well, give the finished mixture to the child to suck.

Priessnitz’s steaming wrap
The steaming neck is also relieved by the steaming wrap. We prepare it by soaking the cotton diaper in cold water, placing the squeezed one on the neck or chest, tying it with a dry scarf and applying a woolen cloth as the third layer.

Another variant: Cover the wet diaper with a plastic bag so that the affected area evaporates properly, or instead of a wet cloth, lard can be spread on the body, which also has warming effects.

Cough and bronchitis

Cough is a natural reflex used to cleanse the lower respiratory tract, which rids the mucous membranes of excess mucus and foreign substances. We consider bronchitis (inflammation of the bronchi) to be a long-lasting deep chest cough, usually in combination with fever.

We do not suppress the cough with anything, on the contrary, we try to support the coughing up of mucus, otherwise the disease could fall lower to the lungs. We can help coughing with herbs and wraps.

Onion syrup for cough
We need: 1 large onion, 1/8 liter of water, 150 g of grape sugar

Procedure: Mix the onion in water and mix the squeezed juice with sugar. For five days, we give the child 1 teaspoon of this syrup three times a day.

Tea to clear cough
We need: 1 teaspoon of plantain leaves, 1 teaspoon of divisia flowers, half a teaspoon of crushed licorice root (we can also use a mallow flower)

Procedure: Pour half a liter of boiling water over all the herbs and leave to infuse for 15 minutes. Then drain and drink in sips during the day. This tea is also suitable for small children, but it should not be drunk for more than 10 days.

For children we use the following dilutions: up to 2 years of age – dilute 1 teaspoon of already finished tea with 2 dl of pure water; from 3 to 5 years – dilute 2 teaspoons of already finished tea with 2 dl of pure water. Then we don’t have to dilute.

Lemon breast wrap
This type of wrap is very suitable for cough and bronchitis. Pour the juice from one chemically untreated lemon into 0.5 liters of hot water. Soak a linen or cotton scarf in it, squeeze it well and place it on the chest area on the back. Finally, attach it firmly with a scarf or shawl. We keep the children’s shoulders warm, otherwise they may catch even more cold during the wrap.

Peace and love also heal

Let’s not forget to provide the small patient with peace and adequate sleep, these are the best remedies for any disease. At the same time, children need a lot of security and safety in times of illness. The best, of course, is when his mother, dad, or another loved one takes care of him. In the loving care of a sick child, the relationship of the parent or other caregiver to the child becomes very intense. This is an important learning time for all involved. New security and more trust are developing.

  1. Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using
for this website? I’m getting fed up of WordPress because I’ve had problems with hackers and I’m looking at options for
another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
